Recommended Resources for Screenwriters

I’ve tried a lot of products and read a lot of books to become a better screenwriter. Here are my top picks that I think will help you!

Final Draft Screenwriting Software

I’ve been using Final Draft for years to write all my screenplays.

It’s the preferred industry standard for screenwriters everywhere, and I highly recommend it.

You can watch my review of Final Draft on my channel.

The Anatomy of Story by John Truby

Even though I read this in grad school, this is the book I wish I’d read when I was far younger–I’d be an even better storyteller now! Honestly, this changed the way I see story and screenwriting as a whole. I can’t recommend it enough.

Creating Character Arcs by K.M. Weiland

Building on the fundamentals laid out by Truby, Weiland deftly shows how story structure is an outworking of character arc. This is a must-read resource for screenwriters who want to write character-driven stories.

Cut to the Chase edited by Linda Venis

An excellent guide for intermediate and advanced screenwriters. It gets into the nitty-gritty of writing craft and is especially helpful for guiding you through the rewriting process. If you’ve read the books above, then grab this one next!
